Project overview

Today, the data security industry is fragmented and lacks an unified solution for existing and potential vulnerabilities. There is also currently no way to effectively convey the quantum of risk posed by employees in an organization.

Business Impacts

47%

Increase in product usage.

Led the designing of Seclore’s Outlook add-in which protects and encrypts the file within the Outlook's eco-system.

60%

Decrease in time to protect a file

Robust framework which doesn't demand the user to perform multiple actions to protect any file.

Problems

Lack of Unified Security

An easy to use and comprehensive solution that spans from discovery to protection, while giving actionable insights to SRM leaders

Lack of Clarity from Complexity

Deliver actionable insights to CISOs/CXOs and not just more data.

Boost End-user Adoption

Improve end-user adoption by dramatically reducing friction.

High Time & Cost Overhead

Manual processes increase recruiter workload and hiring costs, making scaling difficult for fast-growing teams.

Add-in

Native Windows & Mac

The desktop agent protects, classifies, and tracks files seamlessly—even without an internet connection.

IOS & Android

Lets you read, write and share any protected files or emails.

Seclore's Gmail Client

Seclore’s built-in email client makes it easy to send protected emails and attachments on the web.

Outlook Add-in

The Outlook add-in (desktop and web) automatically classifies and protects emails and attachments.

Problem statement

How might we make adoption of data security tools frictionless for data workers?

Principles for frictionless, effective security

We defined four key design principles to make security simple, seamless, and easy to adopt and shifting the focus from just compliance to real protection.

Design Interventions

#1 Outlook Add-in for EDRM

Seclore's EDRM add-in for outlook allows users to protect emails and attachments, and set expiry periods for added security. I have worked on multiple scenarios and here is an advanced attachment-handling scenario where uploads were failing, and this demo presents a solution to that error.

Scenario:
  1. Attachment fails to upload

  2. Remove failed attachment

#2 Outlook Add-in for Classification

Seclore's Outlook classification add-in enables users to classify emails and attachments, with specific protection levels based on company policies. Here is a demo of a feature where the system automatically reads the email body, checks the attachments, and applies the appropriate classification.

Scenario:
  1. Auto classify

  2. Justification on downgrade

#3 Email 2.0

Seclore's Email 2.0 ensures that all protected emails are received in a buffer template format, which serves as the entry point to Email 2.0. The 'View Email' button opens a new tab in the browser, verifies user authentication, and allows only authorized users to view and respond to the email.

Scenario:
  1. User receives the mail in the form of buffer template

  2. Email 2.0 auth and mail preview

  3. Uploads an attachment and tries to hit send

Seclore mobile experience

Viewing a protected mails, attachments on addition to that sending, replying and uploading a protected attachment has become handy with Seclore's mobile experience. This doesn't demand you to carry your laptop/PC everywhere and performing such critical tasks or handling sensitive files is not a problem anymore.

Project limitations

Highly UI restrictive

Project follows multiple design touch points and uses Fluent UI which has very lesser in components to keep the execution simpler.

Limited access to a lot of functionalities

Since the project relies on outlook add-in, it follows Microsoft's guidelines & the executions doesn't support most of the custom functionalities.

Legacy code restricts most of the UX

Archiving the modern experience with the 5+ years old code is making it difficult to explore and introduce better experience.

Presentation that actually helped us to understand the user base.

My growth as a designer
through this project

01

Led the project end-to-end

I was able to take to project to certain level as an acting lead. This resulted in improvement in high level communication, ownership and managing work.

02

Cross functional team collaboration

Direct interactions with Product managers, engineers, customer teams and other designers to understand & ship any robust solutions.

03

Designing beyond happy flows

Seclore is all about 100(s) of use cases. Using AI tools to map the cases and reviewing with the product team before creating mocks.

04

Design system construction

Currently working on the construction of Seclore's independent design system which completely detaches from fluent & exploring its own brand guidelines.
